(Such a pretty lady)
In recent times, it was mentioned that the days ahead are gloomy. Many heads were drooping and some started to put mess up their hair just to suit the climate of the economy.
"Times are bad man, times are bad...", "Boy I'm glad I have this job, but times are bad my friend..."
Yes, and thank you for providing such positive affirmation without ever considering how others are doing. The many that fall within the Middle Adult age group suffer the most. As they thought their career is about to reach a peak, it collapsed. The golden age disappeared in the twinkling of an eye without any prior notice. It smiled at you, only to dissolve once you close that eye for a split second. Cruel but realistic, that's the world huh.
Something interesting about this age group is the fact that they are called 'sandwich generation'. Financially, they suffer the most. For the slightly more fillial ones who still give care to their elderly, they provide healthcare expenses for the next 20years, or less. They too, need to fight just to live another day as their sons and daughters, married partner (some unmarried), all look to him/her for the same providence. Those who cannot withstand the humiliation of losing their jobs or taking a steep cut in remuneration, often choose to end the story simply by removing the main character: themselves. And so, we end up with more broken families, hurting hearts, angry wives and children who would grow up having a warp mentally about a family's core function.
They don't just fight the money factor. Many struggle with esteem as they begin to realise that their companies rather hire this fresh graduate who would take half their salary, do twice their job and smile at O.T since they have so much energy to spare. Imagine someone at their 'prime', losing to this young punk, this green horn, this pair of unseasoned soccer boots. (hahaha, yes, I play that) And so, many walk around with their heads held high for as long as another eye would look and only to be downcast when they return to the quiet harbour back home.
On the other side of the road paints a picture of a sunny street. People who walk with a glide on their stride, a smile on their faces and a cheer in their hearts. These are those who suffer the same plight yet with quiet confidence, they hold their heads high and their faces uplifted towards the Son. There is Hope.
Some chose to walk quietly, simply waiting for a breakthrough and a small encouragement along the way to add fuel in the engine. Others saw that their worth was not found in their status or the amount of remuneration from their daily jobs. They begin to recognise the fact that life goes beyond the daily facades put on by many. Life is Hope.
Every new day dawns a new beginning, and a noble chance to perform small deeds that yield great returns in the lives of the young, the old and even the stubborn youths on the streets. There's much to do and there's much to fulfill. There is hope, as long as tomorrow comes. But we will never know whether that tomorrow will come for us. Yet one thing for sure is this - we live to fight another day. And there is every chance for each one of us to excel and do well if we set our heart on it.
There is Hope.
Where do you place your hope in?
